Recent sexual assault case on campus lacks sufficient evidence

WILSON N.C — With three weeks into the fall semester, a female Barton student recently reported to be sexually assaulted on campus on a early Friday morning.

On Sep. 9, she turned to authorities and claimed that the suspect was another student.

By 8:53 p.m. that evening, police officers of the Wilson Police Department filed a case.

From the press release provided by Sgt. Eric McInerny, Public Information Officer for the Wilson Police Department, the victim’s and accused’s identities are unknown.

“Since the incident, detectives have conducted interviews with all parties involved as well as consulting with the District Attorney’s Office,” said McInerny.

However, based on the details of the investigation, McInerny said that the case will be closed unless additional information becomes available, due to the lack of evidence provided.

The department is encouraging anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
